I came across this app called “gstring” and its available on the Android market, if you happen to own one Android phone. this very powerful app allows you to check your piano or guitar to see/hear if its properly tuned. Well in the case for piano, you need to get a professional piano tuner to tune each note for you, but if you’re on a guitar, you will be able to tune it, with the aid of this program.

Jay Chou 周杰倫 - 我不配

This time, this post is not me singing, nor is it a score sheet. I just thought of updating this site since I haven’t done so for quite awhile.

I have been tackling some Grade 6 ABRSM pieces and they were so difficult, plus the time I had for practicing is decreasing. It took me just 3-6 months to fully get a score done well. So perhaps the chords and lyrics section will have to stall awhile.

I felt this song has very great meaning, not to me and you, but to Jay Chou. Looking at the MTV, I can really feel how an artist, a popular one such as Jay Chou feels. In the MV you can see alot of times its sacrifice for fame, and whether it is worth it, it’s up to you to decide.

The song is also nicely composed, I like the R&B beat with a bit of Jay Chou’s signature mumbling singing. (Not forgetting the pretty girl in this video). And for those of you who wants to have a shot in reaching the next level of singing, this is quite a song with low to high range, + the use of singing volume to express your singing style. Plus lots of free to “play” areas.

DND Performance over!

I have been busy for the past month, at least, preparing my company’s Dinner and Dance performance.

I had offered the band to sing one or two songs, and only to sing. I didn’t want to worry about the keyboard chords and stuff, as it’s kinda of tiring. Well, before we even start to choose songs to try, the lead vocalist said that he was busy on the DND day itself and couldn’t make it.

So I ended up being the main vocalist. And so I went in with full commitments, with my band members. They include a drummer, a bassist, a rhythm guitarist, and a lead guitarist. And that of course, includes me as the keyboardist.

So so here’s just one picture of me: (hehe)

It took us about 2 times a week of practice, and mainly I had to conquer the English songs, because I had been singing Mandarin for years, with proper pronunciation. As for English, it’s kinda of hard for me. Anyway I started picking perfect English a year ago, and started talking more of it, in a “correct” way.

It ended quite well, my English was there, and I only had to overcome remembering lyrics. At first I find English songs hard to remember, because words may have many “sounds”, whereas in Mandarin, one word = one sound.

In any case I enjoyed myself and learned alot, because if you go through the list of songs, you’ll see songs are sung by both UK and US singers. Also, some songs are cool and quiet, love songs, while some are rock. (eg. Yellow and What I’ve Done) I actually tried the “rock screaming” voice, and I think it was Ok. At least I don’t sound soft while singing those 2 songs. These gave me a whole new experience to English music.

Oh yeah, I still love the way I started “What I’ve Done with the keyboard for the band to continue the song.

Youtube’s Symphony Orchestra Ambassador - Lang Lang

This video here is about Youtube’s Symphony Orchestra project, as well as our favorite pianist Lang Lang who is now the Ambassador promoting this event. It helps to bring together musicians across the world to perform an orchestra offline at home. Don’t know what the outcome will be, but let’s anticipate this event happening right at the comfort of our own home.

If you guys ever wondered why there’s so many people learning the piece “Secret” from Jay Chou’s movie, this is the part which is most unforgettable.

And this is also what inspired me to learn this piece. It really feels like being part of the movie.

Pressure… 2 performances coming!

Hi guys! I know many of you are waiting for chords of songs being put up.

I have been asked to improvise as a pianist in one of the graduation ceremony for a University campus and it is held on the 9th of October. Being the pianist first time, I am feeling alot of pressure right now from the singers as well as the organizers, so I hope to put up a good show and put all the practise to good use !

There will be parents, lecturers, school staff and graduating students coming to this ceremony. I’ll be performing at Singapore Conference Hall (Home of Singapore Chinese Orchestral), with a simple piece at the intro, followed by 2 songs. I will post my self-composed piece (once I have recorded it) and the lyrics / chords of the 2 songs before the performance!

And then few days after this performance, I was invited to my own company’s anniversary where I was asked to sing something. Instead I suggested using the keyboard and play something nice. Because my company’s band are usually playing English Pop, I am there to give audiences a taste of what Chinese music is all about. This will be for charity as well.

This is much relaxing as I get to see the lyrics and chords. Audiences are friends and colleagues whom I worked with, so it felt better. I am still wondering what are some of the songs that are nice to be performed hmm…

This would be strange on me because I loved all types of music. Just because I don’t record Jazz or classical music doesn’t I don’t like them; it’s pretty hard to record a good perfect piece of classical or jazz. I have 3 pieces from ABRSM grade 5’s pieces which I hope to finish soon.]
